The Importance of a Good Start: Supporting New Mothers and Babies in Ndegeya

The first days and weeks following a baby’s birth are crucial for their health and well-being. A warm environment, clean clothes, nourishing food, and basic care can make the difference between a fragile start and a healthy future. Unfortunately, for many mothers in Ndegeya, these essentials are not a given. Without support, their babies face increased risks of hypothermia, infections, and malnutrition.

That’s why the MCC, with the generous help of our sponsors, is assembling starter kits for expectant and new mothers. These kits contain everything needed for a safe and healthy first period at home, including:

  • Warm blankets and baby clothes
  • Muslin cloths and diapers
  • Basic hygiene products for both mother and child
  • Nutritional supplies or infant formula where needed
  • Medicines or vitamin supplements when necessary
  • Educational materials on care and feeding

By providing these kits, we offer mothers not only practical items but also the reassurance that they are not alone. It’s a gesture of support and care from the MCC and our sponsors—a true heartwarming symbol of community and involvement.

Our dream is for every mother leaving the MCC to receive a starter kit, so she and her baby can begin their life together with warmth and security. Thanks to the support of our sponsors, we can continue assembling and distributing these kits to the most vulnerable families.

Would you like to help give mothers and babies in Ndegeya a healthy start?
Every donation, big or small, makes it possible to provide more starter kits and change the lives of newborn children for the better.

Together, we bring warmth, care, and hope—from the very first moment.

The impact of alcohol abuse on the family and communities are big. Around Christmas many fathers are found scattered on the roads in coma or die there. Much bigger solutions will need to be found to help change this culture.
