Mother and Child Centre
Motherhood Under Challenging Circumstances
During the first year of the Mother and Childcare Center (MCC), 20 mothers gave birth to beautiful babies—each with her own unique story, often marked by hardship, but always filled with courage and resilience.
For many women in this region, pregnancy and motherhood are shadowed by fear and uncertainty. Too often, mothers arrive at the health center battered and bruised, victims of domestic violence. It is a painful reality in parts of Uganda that men assert their status by impregnating a woman but frequently abandon their responsibilities. All too frequently, these men leave their partners during pregnancy, leaving young mothers to face the daunting challenge of caring for a newborn all alone.
Poverty in Uganda’s rural areas is tangible and unforgiving. Sometimes newborns go home wrapped only in a curtain. There is no crib, no proper nutrition, not even a blanket—only the daily struggle to survive. Food is scarce, and basic items like soap, diapers, and blankets are considered luxuries.
The MCC serves as a safe haven for mothers in the most vulnerable situations. Beyond medical care during pregnancy and childbirth, the center offers vital postnatal care and health education. The dedicated professionals and volunteers at MCC are determined to give every mother and baby the best possible start, despite the challenging circumstances.
Providing Sustainable Support
At MCC, care goes far beyond the moment of birth; the focus is on sustainable support for both mother and child. That’s why the Laudara Foundation has developed three tailored care packages, designed specifically to meet the needs of new mothers in Ndegeya:
- Basic Essentials: Soap, clothes, and diapers to cover immediate needs.
- Comfort and Warmth: In addition to essentials, blankets to provide much-needed warmth in chilly nights.
- Protection and Security: Includes everything above plus a mosquito net—an essential item in an area where malaria remains a deadly threat.

In an environment where a simple mosquito net can mean the difference between hope and despair, these packages provide more than just items; they offer protection and peace of mind.
Statistics clearly show that investing in mother and child healthcare in Uganda leads directly to lower child mortality rates and healthier beginnings for the next generation. However, poverty and entrenched social norms in rural areas remain stubborn obstacles. Through ongoing structural support—not only during delivery but especially in the critical first months after birth—the MCC, in partnership with the Joanne Foundation and Laudara, is building a foundation of resilience and hope.
Every birth at the MCC is a victory—but it is only the beginning. For these mothers and their children, often left without support, a donation to one of the Laudara packages truly makes a difference. Together, we can give every child in Ndegeya a fair chance at a healthy future.Nieuwe alinea
